Carolyn P. Watts, 78, of Palestine, IL, died at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. She was born December 8, 1939 in Lawrenceville, the daughter of Arvie & Ruth (Lynch) Carlyle, both of whom preceded her in death. Carolyn married Gerald “Goat” Watts on July 18, 1957 and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Lyden; and by her brother, Samuel Carlyle. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Fear; by her grandson, Roger Cornwell, Jr.; by her granddaughter, Kinsey Fear; by her great-grandchildren, Roger Cornwell III, Sallee Cornwell, and Landon Cornwell; by her brothers-in-law, Jerry & Norma Watts, Tommy & Shirley Watts; by her sisters-in-law, Christine & Mike Clauss and Linda Zuluetta; as well as several nieces and nephews. Carolyn grew up in the Lawrenceville area and was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School. She went right to work at an early age and was, by all accounts, a strong, industrious woman. She worked for E.H. Baare as a welder for many years before finally retiring a number of years ago. At home, she demonstrated great prowess in the kitchen, and always made sure to keep her family good and fed. She and Goat travelled often together, and were especially fond of Florida, where they vacationed nearly every summer. According to her wishes, Carolyn will be cremated and there will be no public services. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
