Bob Rice

Robert E. €œBob€ Rice, 85 of Flat Rock, IL, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, IL. He was born December 4, 1925 in Willow Hill, IL, the son of Howard Rice and Esther McGovern Rice. He was a farmer and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge # 348, Robinson American Legion Post #69, Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church and the Crawford County Farm Bureau.Bob married Edith L. €œEdie€ Hoover on May 3, 1947 and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gary Rice on August 4, 1989; and 2 brothers, Chuck and Alan Rice.He is survived by his 2 sons and daughters-in-law, George and Beth Rice, Robinson and Greg and Jeanne Rice, rural Robinson; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and his sister-in-law, Bill and Shirley Rice, Robinson, and Junior Rice, Champaign; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Alumbaugh, Burleson, TX; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 19th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock with Pastor Roger Boyd and Ronnie Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18th at the funeral home.Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, Robinson American Legion Post #69, AmVets Post #33, and Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18th at the funeral home by the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348. Memorials may be made to the Crawford County Relay for Life, the Birds Free Methodist Church, or to the Flat Rock First Missionary Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
