Betty L. Gilbert

September 30, 1934 — September 4, 2021

Betty L. Gilbert, 86, of Robinson, IL, died September 4, 2021, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson, IL. She was born September 30, 1934, at home in Annapolis, IL, the daughter of Dean Stanley Elliott & Blanche RLea (O'Dell) Elliott, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Jack Gilbert on May 25, 1952, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2020. She was also preceded in death by their son, Steve Gilbert; by her brother, LeRoy Elliott; by her sisters, Joann Elliott, Ramona Kay Williams, Mary Katherine Whisman, Karen A. Richards, and Lois Eileen Hanson; and by her daughter-in-law, Judy Gilbert. She is survived by her children, John Gilbert (Olney, IL), Lisa & Randy Dunlap (Robinson, IL), and Jay & JoBeth Gilbert (Robinson, IL); by her grandchildren, Paul Gilbert, Gail Gilbert, Dustin & Melanie Stinson, Garrett & Michelle Stinson, RLea Gilbert, Joslyn Dunlap, Lindsey Parker, Lucas Dunlap, Bethany Dunlap, Jacob Gilbert, Connor York, Christina Marshall, and Kevin Marshall; by several great-grandchildren; by her sister & brother-in-law, Beverly Jane & Don Gutshall (Wentzville, MO); as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty grew up outside of Annapolis and would go on to work for several local institutions over the course of her life, including Crawford Memorial Hospital (where she worked her way up to become a Certified Operating Room Technician) and the First National Bank in Robinson. Even outside of work, she busied herself around the house. She was an avid gardener and felt great fulfillment in tending to her flowers and vegetables. She knew her way around the kitchen and showed love to her family through her good old-fashioned homemade cooking. Her loved ones weren't the only beneficiaries of this dear woman's gift, as she must have made meals for half of Crawford County! If she got wind that someone needed a little help, it was almost a certainty that they'd soon enjoy a hot dinner, compliments of Betty Gilbert! It was evident that she had a servant's heart, which comes as no surprise, seeing as she was a follower of Jesus. Though she was a 30+ year member of the Robinwood Assembly of God, it was in the way Betty lived her life that pointed to the faith she held onto, the faith that has now been made sight. Her family will be coordinating a celebration of her life, which will be held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of cremation arrangements. Memorials may be made to the "Oblong Children's Christian Home", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
